Hello Georgina! Could you describe yourself in a few words for our readers that don’t know you yet?
Hi I’m Georgie, I’m enthusiastic, energetic, strong-minded, passionate ocean and shark lover, explorer, adventure lover and I also have an unhealthy bikini addiction. I do what I want and I hope I can help to inspire others to try something new or follow their dreams. I also have my own website, www.georginamonti.com, where I blog bikini reviews, competition results, educational posts and more!
How did you start kiteboarding?
My brother has always been a kiter but I was always busy horse riding. I went down to the beach one day to watch where I met my partner Rich and he taught me to kitesurf. From that point it was all I wanted to do.
You have just won a competition in the Dominican Republic, congratulations! Tell us more about your experience over there.
Thank you! For the past two years I’ve been coming to Cabarete for 6 months to escape the UK winter, but this time I’m here for the year! It truly is an incredible place with the wind picking up in the afternoon, it means you can surf in the morning and kite after lunch. Oh and the temperature sits around 28C most days so I feel super spoilt!
The competition was an awesome experience. The first day was the single elimination where I lost my first heat and honestly felt a bit gutted about it but you know things don’t always go your way. The second day was the double elimination, I went with a fresh outlook and managed to stay focused and rode and won all 7 heats back to back. I was exhausted but I’d managed to work my way from last place to first! It goes to show that you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it and stay focused. I hope it helped to inspire people, kiters and non-kiters, to not give up!
What do you like so much about kiteboarding?
The freedom. The ability to go wherever I want to and explore the ocean from a different perspective. Especially here in Cabarete, if I’m having a bad day I can always go out and play in the waves or ride out as far as I dare, look back at the island and remember how blessed I am. I also love the adrenaline and stoke that comes from learning and landing new tricks. The community also makes kiting so special, whether it be in England or here in Cabarete, we have the most amazing kite communities that feel like extended family, always there to help.
Who is your biggest inspiration within the kiteboarding industry?
Gisela Pulido. She remains so focused, trains so hard and is so humble. Despite everything going on, she always has time to talk to and inspire people. She is a true champion and is a great role model for both guys and girls.
What do you prefer: a rainy and cold session with strong wind or a sunny, light wind session?
It would have to be a sunny light wind session. Being only 5’1ft and weighing 100 pounds, light wind sessions are always fun especially as I have a 15m Contra. The feeling of having the sun on your skin just makes everything that little bit better too!
Where is your favourite kite spot, why is it and where do you dream to go?
My favourite kite spot has to be my home spot, Shoebury Eastbeach in the UK. You can ride perfect flat water on the incoming and outgoing tide, or wait till low tide for the lagoons to appear and it’s never overcrowded. The only downside is that it’s not as sunny as here and there’s no waves. There are too many places to list! The next spot on my list is the Maldives with an abundance of sea life, waves, wind and turquoise waters it’s definitely somewhere I want to explore. I just want to see as much of the world as possible.
What do you like to do when you are not kiteboarding?
I LOVE to surf! Whether the waves are 1ft or 5ft, I always have fun and get super excited. There is no feeling like it; it makes me all excited just thinking about it! I also love to work out, swim, read and swing around at trapeze. I also enjoy blogging and updating my social media.
What are your plans for the upcoming months?
My plans are to keep pushing myself kiting and surfing and keep living the beach bum lifestyle. My partner and I are running advanced coaching trips too so we’ll be busy with 4shorecoaching.com.
Who among your kite girl friends should be our next Miss Stance?
My best friend Tracy Shayhorn. She encourages and inspires everyone on the beach. She is also always willing to help and she also shreds hardcore on the water. <3
